Out of the hundreds of images I took of my cownose ray encounter, this was the last one. The encounter lasted 15 minutes at varying depths and this image was taken at around 18 metres. Freediving for photos I rarely go past 10 metres, for this encounter there was no way I could resist. . On tour with @coralbayeco Shooting natural light with @aquaticadigital . A newly hatched hawksbill turtle takes its first swim. It was about 4cm long and two minutes old when I took this picture at Lissenung Island PNG. This little guy would have had the odds stacked against it with and estimated survival chance of 1 in a 1000, I hope he’s still out there somewhere fighting the battle. The hawksbill turtle is on the IUCN red list as “Critically Endangered” which means it faces a high risk of extinction. @lissenungisland @nikonaustralia @aquaticadigital #mynikonlife #aquaticadigital #mattysmithphoto
